EXPOSE & PROPOSE
Engaging directly with migrant workers, we strategically use research to provide new understandings of the drivers, nature and scale of exploitation. We illuminate how laws and institutions are failing in practice. Using this evidence base, we develop pragmatic proposals for reform. These draw on our legal and policy expertise, knowledge of innovative approaches in other countries, and understanding of the concerns of government and business.
FORGE ALLIANCES
We build broad coalitions of service providers, migrant communities, modern slavery experts, unions and faith-based groups in Australia and globally to develop our reforms and build public support for change. Our unique largescale data on migrant workers’ experiences enable our partners to more effectively tailor their services for migrant workers, attract funding to meet demonstrated need, and collectively champion reform based on compelling evidence.
ADVISE & ADVOCATE
Drawing on extensive evidence, we set a clear agenda for law and policy reform. We navigate the political and business landscapes to persuasively advocate for change. We have built close relationships with federal and state government ministers and parliamentarians, and key government departments, who frequently seek our advice. We also help institutional investors and businesses understand where and why exploitation continues to flourish in supply chains, and identify levers for change.
CREATE CHANGE
Our common sense proposals for reform lead to significant changes in Australian laws and business practices because they are grounded in rigorous research and deep community engagement. We support a global community of practice to utilise promising initiatives from around the world to drive effective reforms in their own country, amplifying the impact of local change.
